Worth knowing

That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Honeywell Vent Sanitizing: The Lewisville Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Honeywell-compatible vent sanitizing systems in Lewisville, with typical installed pricing from $340 to $580 depending on your duct configuration and whether we’re treating a single zone or the full system. Most Honeywell UV100A, UV100E, and RUVLAMP1 series units can be swapped same-day because we carry the lamps, ballasts, and mounting hardware on every truck. Homeowners usually notice the problem first as a faint musty smell returning at the registers, or they pull the filter and see the UV indicator light has gone dark on the air handler.

Which Honeywell Models This Applies To

Honeywell’s vent sanitizing lineup breaks into three families, and getting the right match matters because the lamp length, base type, and voltage all change.

  • UV100A Series: The original cabinet-mount units, typically 16-inch or 24-inch lamps running on 120V. The A1054 replacement lamp is the most common swap we do in Lewisville. Check the label inside the access panel for the “-1054” suffix.
  • UV100E Series: Electronic ballast models with a different connector pin arrangement. The E-series lamps look identical to the A-series until you try to seat them. We’ve seen homeowners force the wrong lamp and crack the ceramic base.
  • RUVLAMP1 / RUVBULB1: The newer residential retrofit kits with 9-inch and 16-inch options. These use a twist-lock base that only fits Honeywell’s own housing. Aftermarket equivalents exist from Abatement Technologies, but we verify pin spacing with a caliper before install because 2mm of tolerance error means a dead lamp in six months.

The OEM lamp runs $85 to $140 retail. We also stock quality aftermarket lamps from Abatement Technologies that meet the same 253.7nm UV-C output spec at roughly 60% of OEM cost. For most Lewisville homes, the aftermarket unit performs identically. The exception is the RUVLAMP1 housing, where the twist-lock geometry is proprietary and the OEM part is the only reliable fit.

Signs Your Honeywell Vent Sanitizing Is Failing

Signs Your Honeywell Vent Sanitizing Is Failing
  • The UV indicator light is out or flickering. On Honeywell units with a viewport, this is your first warning. The ballast is still drawing power but the lamp has lost its mercury vapor arc. We check this first on every service call in Lewisville because it’s a 30-second diagnostic that prevents unnecessary lamp swaps.
  • Musty or sour smells returning after the system cycles. The UV-C wavelength suppresses microbial growth on the evaporator coil and in the plenum. When output drops below 40 microwatts per square centimeter, suppression fails. In Lewisville’s humid spring months, we see this threshold crossed faster than the manufacturer rates because the coil stays wet longer.
  • Visible dark staining on the coil or duct walls near the lamp. This means the lamp is running but at reduced intensity, or it’s shifted position and no longer illuminates the full airstream. The camera shows a 3-inch debris build-up at the first elbow in some Castle Hills homes, blocking the UV path entirely.
  • The lamp hasn’t been changed in 18+ months. Honeywell rates most lamps at 9,000 hours, which is roughly 12 months of continuous runtime. In practice, Lewisville’s cooling season runs long, and many systems log 14 to 16 months before the homeowner realizes. We write the install date on the housing with a paint marker so there’s no guesswork.
  • Your HVAC technician flagged it during seasonal maintenance. If they measured UV output with a radiometer and it’s below 30 microwatts, the lamp is spent. Some Lewisville homeowners ask us to verify with our own meter, which we’re glad to do under Haven Standard Clause 1 - written price before any work starts.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Price Range What’s Included
Honeywell UV lamp swap (single lamp, accessible location) $340 - $420 Lamp, ballast test, housing cleaning, output verification with radiometer, photo record
Dual-lamp system or restricted-access install $460 - $580 Both lamps, plenum access if needed, full duct run inspection, documented photo record
Ballast replacement (lamp tests good, ballast failed) $280 - $380 OEM or equivalent ballast, wiring inspection, surge-damage check

What drives the range: plenum location (attic vs. closet), whether the lamp is seized in its socket from heat cycling, and if we need to cut access to reach a failed ballast. Every job gets a written price before work starts, no exceptions. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the install and the lamp output. Equipment on the truck includes Honeywell, Abatement Technologies, and Guardsman UV components.

There’s one safe check you can do yourself: power down the air handler at the breaker, remove the access panel, and look at the lamp through the viewport or by sight. If it’s dark after the system has run for two minutes, it’s failed. Do not touch the glass with bare skin, the oils will create a hot spot and shorten the new lamp’s life.

What goes wrong with DIY: the 120V ballast retains a capacitive charge even when the breaker is off, the ceramic base cracks from improper torque, and the lamp position shifts so it no longer illuminates the coil. We’ve been called to three Lewisville homes this year where the homeowner installed the right lamp in the wrong orientation and got zero UV coverage for six months. Here’s the before photo. Now let’s talk about what happens next.
